ADD/ADHD – New Findings

Most individuals don't have the basic fundamental information relating to Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD).  As with most diseases and bugs, most families don't worry themselves about them until they find them crawling across their front lawn.  An estimated 5% of our national population is affected by the disorders, with 7.5% affecting those within the school age range.  Globally, 3%-5% of our planet is affected, with approximately 30%-50% of them carrying their symptoms into adulthood.

ADHD has been found to be genetically connected.  If a single parent has ADHD, there is a 60% chance that the disorder will be passed on to their off spring.  If both parents are affected, there's a 90% chance of the child acquiring the disorder.  Numerous doctors have been working vigorously on isolating and treating the disorder.  It has been found that the cause of ADHD is often directly related to chromosome 11, a dopamine receptor gene.

Continuing with the dopamine factor, overall human survival is related to pleasure.  Everyone has their own pleasure points, different strokes for different folks.  Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is released into the nervous system, which directly causes the sense of pleasure.  When either the transportation or production of this neurotransmitter is inhibited, the body acts out for the need of satisfaction or pleasure as in individuals with ADHD.

The Limbic System is directly connected to the nucleus accumbens (NAcc), which is the pleasure center of the brain.  It plays a vital role in fear, addiction, reward, sexual arousal, and pleasure.  When the Limbic System is interrupted or inhibited in any way, the symptoms of ADHD occur.  With the Limbic System operating properly, one can feel content, happy, and emotionally balanced.  The vertebral bodies and the spinal column have a close and operational relationship with the pleasure center of the brain.

A subluxation is a partial dislocation.  Vertebral subluxation is a significant displacement of a vertebra or vertebras.  A vertebral subluxation can block pleasure signals and cause other problems among the nervous system.  It has been found that Chiropractors can correct these vertebral subluxations with their therapy thereby correcting adverse effects of the nervous system and pleasure center.  With the pleasure center functioning properly, the life of an individual suffering from ADD/ADHD can improve tremendously.
